"The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” " - Psalm 14: 1
DOES GOD REALLY EXISTS?
Have you ever seen sci-fi movies that dealt with time travel? It is the type of movie where the main characters have the ability to travel from the present to the past and/or future. Interesting concept, isn't it?
Just imagine if you were given that ability within the context of the current topic of whether god exists or not. Just imagine that you can travel to the past - across geographical, social, cultural, religious and language boundaries - moving thru time, across different eras... observing... inquiring... asking, "Do you believe in God?"
History tells us that you would witness a common belief in God be it defined as a man made object, a force or object in nature, a mystical concept or spirit being. Why? Is it because human beings need an explanation for what they don't understand? Or is there another reason - something more profound? Something, though immeasurable, testifies of the very existence of God?
Could it be that across eras, geographical, social, cultural, religious and language boundaries the human spirit is the same?
Could it be that human beings throughout time have witnessed the creative intelligence in nature all around them?
Could it be that they witnessed the creative intelligence each time they saw life came forth in the birth of an offspring?
Could it be that they witnessed the creative intelligence in the order found in the rising and setting of the sun, the moon and stars at night, the changes in seasons and maturation process in both plants and animals?
Could it be that each time they felt love and other powerful emotions and experienced the intelligence within themselves they subconsciously knew that there had to be underlying cause?
Could it be that they subconsciously knew that there had to be "someone" or "something" behind it all? Something or someone that had greater intelligence? Wisdom?
Could it be that the Holy Bible is true when it states:
"He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since He is Lord of Heaven and Earth, He doesn't live in man-made temples, and human hands can't serve His needs – for He has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and He satisfies every need there is. From one man He created all the nations throughout the whole Earth. He decided beforehand which should rise and fall, and He determined their boundaries.
His purpose in all of this was that the nations should seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward Him and find Him – though He is not far from any one of us. For in Him we live and move and exist."
Acts 17: 24-31
MANY RELIGIONS. MANY GODS.
As you travel through time moving from one country to the next, you would notice an array of religions and gods. Arriving in ancient Egypt, you would notice that the ancient Egyptians enjoyed speaking about their numerous gods such as Amun-Ra, Osiris, and Horus that they believed lived invisibly in the mortal world, acting through sacred sites, items, animals and people. As you move to ancient Rome, you would notice the worship of numerous gods, the chief of which was Jupiter. Jupiter was considered the spirit of the sky and worshiped as the god of thunder and lightening. During wartime, he was sought for protection and victory. During peace time, he was considered the god of justice and morality. If you continued your travel to ancient Greece, again you would notice numerous gods, the chief of whom was Zeus who appears to be similar to Jupiter in ancient Rome.
Moving through time - through the Age of Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance, Modern Age, Industrial Age, 20th century to the present time - you would observe both polytheism and monotheism. You would see the practice of Hinduism in India beginning around 2500 BCE; the practice of Zoroastrianism across Asia from Greece in the west to the Hindu Kush in the east, up into southern Russia and down into Egypt in 1400 BCE. Moving over to the Middle East, you would observe the practice of Judaism. Cross over to 550 BCE, and you would see the non-theistic practices of Buddhism in the east. Beginning in 27 CE, you would observe the practice of Christianity; in 622 CE, the practice of Islam; in 712, the practice of Shintoism; 1495 CE the practice of Sikhism; 1863 CE , the practice of the Baha'i Faith.
As you observe all of these religions and gods throughout human history, would you not ask yourself, "So many religions. So many gods. Is it one god or many gods?"
ONE GOD OR MANY GODS?
As you travel from the dawn of civilization, through the different eras and get closer to the present time, you would observe the rise and fall of civilizations all over the world. In your travels you would observe that the world starts changing at a progressively faster rate as traders span the globe, cultures clash, new inventions are made and man's ability to communicate and travel across geographical boundaries increase exponentially.
In the midst of all of these changes, you would observe that the operation of nature remains the same throughout time - the sun rises and sets, seeds are planted and sowed, animals give birth to their young, seas and oceans generally stay within invisible boundaries, wild and tame animals retain their natures, seasons change cyclically, and human beings dominate the Earth. Nature remains functioning as a back drop and canopy on which human beings paint their experiences on the Earth as if in accordance with established invisible laws. Divine laws... laws established by a superior being.
Could it be that the Holy Bible is true in its description of the CREATION?
As you travel across eras and cultures, you would also notice that in the social structure of animal and human being groups there is one leader or ruler - to have otherwise would undermine order, survival, effectiveness and progress. Would you not think that this structure of leadership speaks of an intelligence that's not unique to human beings but to someone or something who is above all that you have seen as you traveled through time?
Would you not think that the one-leader social structure seen in both animal and human being groups is possibly a clue as to the nature of the one who most probably created all things? Would you not think that this "one" of superior intelligence would most probably not be a chief god by segregation of duties in a group of many gods because such a division lends itself to instability as other gods within the group strive to become the "chief god"?
Could it be that the Holy Scriptures are true when it states:
"I have made the Earth, and created man on it. I - My hands - stretched out the Heavens, and all their host I have commanded. For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens, who is God, who formed the Earth and made it, who has established it, who did not create it in vain, who formed it to be inhabited: "I am the Lord, and there is no other."
Isaiah 45:12,18
THE CREATOR IS GOD
If you were to ask us if we were trying to make others believe that God exists and identify who He is, our answer would be a resolute "No." You see this journey that we call "life" is uniquely personal and, whether we choose to believe or not to do so, is entirely up to us. We are just encouraging others to take a spiritual journey of discovery; it is 100% personal and free. See what you discover - you just may be surprised! As you do so, please remember as it is written in the Holy Bible:
"By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."
Hebrews 11:3, 6
You may be surprised when you discover that God is the only omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, infinite, absolute, eternal, unchangeable, and supreme sovereign being. All power, authority, judgment and wisdom rest in Him. He answers to no one and seeks no counsel. He is the only living supreme being who is accountable to no one but Himself. He is the Creator and the only true and everlasting god.
You may be surprised that the artistic representations that Europeans have created of a white god is quite wrong and very misleading. You may be surprised that the Holy Bible reveals that God is a Spirit - that God is not mystical - that God is truth - that God is not an ideology, neither is He the stars, moon, sun, images made by man, nor is He an animal or a figment of man’s imagination. You may be surprised to learn that neither thoughts nor emotions can create God or His presence and whether you choose to believe or not to believe in His existence would not change the truth that He is. Here are 10 things that you may learn about God:
He is not a white, black, yellow or brown God. He is Spirit.
He is holy.
He is infinite.
He is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent.
He is true.
He is wise and, because He is true and wise, He is just.
He is love and good and, because He is, He is merciful.
He is Jeho’vah - Yhwh - the eternal living one.
He is El-Shaddai - the Almighty God.
He is the “I AM THAT I AM” - not trapped in or by time because He lives in infinity.
