Several years ago, the President of the National Association of Evangelicals - a married preacher, father of five children and founder of one of the largest churches in the USA - sought sexual pleasures from a male prostitute and allegedly used drugs during those encounters over a three year period... while preaching to his congregation and speaking against that which he practiced. Another married preacher, father and founder of a 2,100-member church in the same state was also found to be living in the same hypocrisy. Two of how many?
Everyone has heard about the sexual abuse of children by deviant priests belonging to the Catholic Church - it is a global evil occurrence within the Catholic Church that steals the innocence and futures of children. It is said that evidence suggests that many instances of child abuse by the Catholic clergy were not one-time, isolated incidents but repeated offences committed by some deviant priests who preyed upon numerous victims during multiple parish assignments as they were shielded by a church culture of secrecy.
How often do you hear religious preachers say that if you do not do as they say, God would not do what you ask of Him? How often do you hear of religious preachers who cheat on their spouses, steal from their congregations and do other evil acts? Do you think that Jesus Christ would be pleased?
A plethora of preachers begging and cajoling listeners to become their partners by sending money to them. Their common pitch is:
Do you want a blessing? Give tithes (money) to "God" (their ministry) and "He" would bless you.
Do you want a healing? Give tithes (money) to "God" (their ministry) and "He" would heal you.
Do you want to be financially independent? Plant a "seed" (money) in their ministry and "God" would multiply whatever you gave.
The only requirement to their sales pitch is that believers send their money to them. Included in these "sales programs" are a variety of books, tapes, CDs, "holy water", prayer cloth and other paraphernalia - all making "merchandise" of the Word of God.
Millions of people attend church every Sunday throughout the world. They all say that they are "Christians", "followers of Jesus Christ". Many of these church attendees unashamedly live with their partners outside of marriage, joyfully participate in premarital sex, cheat on their spouses, lie and steal from others as they usher, sing in choirs, and sit in the pews. Several times a year they actively celebrate and promote pagan festivals such as Christmas, Easter, and Halloween. Yet, many of those church attendees, in hypocritical pride and wretched self-righteousness, stand in judgment of others who don't currently believe in Jesus Christ and, perhaps, reflect more Christ-like qualities in their lives. Most do not ask themselves: "If Jesus Christ returned today, would he be pleased? Would the church be found without spot, blemish or wrinkle?"
