There is a raging debate over the definition of marriage, the assignment of rights as to who can or cannot marry and who should determine the overall conclusion of the matter. Where do you stand? Who do you think has the ultimate authority to define marriage?
Would you take a walk with us through the Holy Scriptures?
Before we proceed on our biblical walk, please note that we have divided our walk into three phases both in graphics and narrative. The walk begins with the creation of Adam, continues with God's acknowledgment of the reason for marriage and subsequent creation of Eve, and ends with God's institution of marriage. The foundation of our walk is the truth that the only one who has the sovereign authority to define marriage is the one who created the human race, the universe, and all things visible and invisible.
PHASE I: CREATION OF ADAM
The creation of mankind began with one man made in the image of God, as it is written:
“Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.” - Genesis 2:7
"So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him..." - Genesis 1:27a
PHASE 2: REASON FOR MARRIAGE AND CREATION OF EVE
God created Eve from a part of Adam so that he would not be alone, as it is written:
“Then the Lord God said: “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is like him."
So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to come over the man, and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place. Then the Lord God made the rib He had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man.
And the man said: “This one, at last, is bone of my bone, and flesh of my flesh; this one will be called woman, for she was taken from man.”” - Genesis 2: 18, 21-23
PHASE 3: INSTITUTION OF MARRIAGE
When God created Eve from the rib of Adam, the human race was then divided into the two sexes - male (Adam with the missing rib) and female (Eve formed from Adam's missing rib). The Creator then brought Eve to Adam to be his wife
and the institution of marriage was established, as it is written in Genesis 2: 24-25:
“This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh. Both the man and his wife were naked, yet felt no shame.”
WHAT IS MARRIAGE?
Marriage is the sanctified union of a natural male and female that symbolizes the original union between Adam and Eve that the Creator instituted as part of His creative process. It should be noted that, in instituting marriage, the Creator joined the two that were originally one so that they would become one again; i.e., God separated the original Adam into male and female so that the original Adam would not be alone but have a companion who is of him and for him, as it is written in Genesis 2: 24-25:
“This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.”
This is the purpose of marriage, which is part of God's creative process, and which flows through the mandate that God gave to Adam and Eve (and their descendants), as it is written in Genesis:
"Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth.”
How does the Creator - the Almighty God - conclude on this matter? As it is written in Genesis 5: 1-2,
“This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.”
The Question Of The Day From A World Lost In Sin:
“We love each other and that is all that matters. Why can’t two men or two women who love and are committed to each other marry? Why can’t gays and lesbians marry?”
Why? Or rather - why not?
Marriage is sacred - it is instituted by the one and only Creator and is not just a legal social arrangement. It is intrinsically interwoven with and is the foundation of God’s creation of human beings.
Eve - the female - was formed from the one rib that was taken from Adam and, immediately after her creation, was joined together with him in holy matrimony. In the unifying of the male and female in marriage, the two created genders became that one and only flesh that God formed from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils and became a living being. They are two but one. They are two in order that the original one would not be alone... yet they are the original one created being.
The Questions to Each One of Us Living in a Sinful World:
Do you know that it is a terrifying thing to be subjected to the wrath of the Almighty God?
Is there anything that you can do to escape His wrath?
Do you think luck, your connection to powerful human beings, money, or prayers to "saints" can save you from the Almighty God's wrath?
Do you think that Satan can save you from the wrath of the Almighty God?
The choice to live according to God's laws and principles or to your own desires is uniquely yours and yours alone. There are only two paths on which to walk in this temporal life - follow God or, as Satan says, "Do what you will."
